Antivirus Software

I use Avast Antivirus. A friend who is a programmer recommended this to me several years ago and I have not used anything else since then. There are several reasons I like this program more than the better known ones (Norton’s, Mcafee, etc…).

• Ease of use – the software updates itself automatically each day.
• Minimal system interference – it does not slow down your computer as much as other antivirus programs.
• Protection – if you surf to an unsafe web apge or receive a possibly infected email it notifies you immediately and give the options on what to do.

Avast Antivirus has a free version for home use, a professional version that offers a little better protection and a full Internet Security version for the best protection. I use the free home version on my desktop at home and have purchased the professional version for my work laptop. The cost of the professional version is very reasonable.

All versions of Avast Antivirus run in the background without slowing down you computer as much as some of the better known antivirus programs. They also update themseleves automatically each day with new virus definitions. Every couple of months there is a notification that they have a new version of the program. All you have to do is click the link and the “next” button a few times and it updates the software.

Most new computers come with antivirus software already installed but it is usually a trial version that is good for 60 days. My suggestion is to uninstall that program and install Avast. Make sure you completely remove any antivirus software before installing a new one. Having 2 different antivirus programs running at the same time will cause problems.
